The new and trending comedy-drama, martial art series on Netflix needs no introduction. Based on the Karate Kid movie series, it emphasises on the conflict between Daniel La Russo (played by Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (played by William Zabka) as they righteously preach and practice their own techniques of karate taught by Mr Miyagi and Sensei John Kreese respectively. Their childhood rivalry sores as they come face to face, rekindling many bitter memories of the past.
The rivalry tends to travel among the newer generations (including both Daniel's and Johny's kids) leading to furthermore confusion and drama. Cobra Kai starts with Johnny Lawrence's decision to reopen the Cobra Kai karate dojo. It entails many twists and turns as their kids who are now in their teens witness clashes as they cross each other's paths. The insecurity of Daniel's upon the opening of Cobra Kai, infuses him with reliving his Karate techniques by teaching for free. Hence, constant rivalry amongst the two dojos in seen throughout the series leading very unfortunate events by the end of season 2.
Despite the rivalries, some very special moments are shared on screen between the two protagonists, Daniel and Johnny. Similarly, teenage and school life is shown on a very refreshing banter.Many of us who've seen Karate Kids in our teens relive our memories through flashbacks and references from the movie.
Johnny Lawrence realises his mantra of No Mercy is unworthy and harmful. Is he too late in realising the same? Has the damage been done already?
